Post installation of SSIS for existing MSSQL instance with different build versions
I would like to install SSIS into existing MSSQL2014 Fail-over cluster instance with latest Cumulative update 7 which was applied. I know how to do it but I want to know if consistency of versions between SSIS (from installation disc) and MSSQL2014 (already updated) will be kept at the same latest server version (latest version is 12.0.2560). In to detail, I mean I have latest CU7 update applied but I want to install SSIS from image where is first RTM version release 12.0.2000 but currently I have 12.0.2560 CU7 Server version which is newer. Will be there conflict of versions or SSIS has no impact which version of SQL server is actually installed? I can also download image of SQL2014 with SP1, but build version is higher than actual CU7 (SP1 is 12.0.4100 build version and CU7 with fixes 12.0.2560 buld version). Reason why I don't want to install SP1 even when build version is higher has less fixed bugs than actual CU7.
So in result does post-installation of SSIS downgrade SQL Server version to which installation media contains or it will be self-upgraded to actual server installed version?
Thank you for help.

Differential backups periodically taking a longer than expected time to complete
Hello --
We are running a SQL Server 2008R2 64-bit database system on a Windows 2012 R2 64-bit Standard system. I have noticed in recent weeks that our differential backups periodically are taking longer than expected to complete. The usual amount of time is about
one hour, but on several occasions, it has taken upwards to five hours. The nights when the job takes longer to complete are on Friday.
I did some checking online, and one possible reason for this issue is my scheduling the reindexing of the database on the morning of the Differential backup. For example, this past Friday the reindexing occurred at 1:00 AM with the Differential running at 10:00 PM that night.
The article that I read suggested the reindexing, which takes several minutes, if that, to complete, should be scheduled to run just before the Full backup job. I wanted to know what other people thought of that approach before I implemented it on our system.
Thanks.

A full backup of a database is taking an abnormally long amount of time to complete
Hello --
We are running SQL Server 2008 R2 64-bit on a Windows 2012 R2 Standard 64-bit system. Our backup plan utilizes the MaintenanceSolutions.sql scripts. The Database Backup = USER_DATABASES - FULL job involves twenty databases of sizes ranging from twenty megabytes
to over 300 gigabytes.
Two of the largest databases were recently reconfigured to utilize a separate FILESTREAM volume from the others due to space limitations of the original volume. Both were interactively backed up to a temporary folder on another volume. The databases were
then deleted, and subsequently restored with the new FILESTREAM volume configured in their options. The databases were successfully accessed by our users after the reconfiguration of each had been complete.
The larger of the two databases, which is 360 gigabytes, completes backing up in about three hours. However the other database, which is 326 gigabytes, is taking a day and a half to complete. I compared the properties of the two databases, and I did not see anything different in their configurations.
The DatabaseIntegrityCheck -USER_DATABASES and IndexOptimize - USER_DATABASES job histories did not list any problems. The backups of all the other databases are not taking nearly as long to complete.
I am going to be interactively backing up the problematic database this evening to see if the issue is within the backup job, or the database itself. Beyond that, what other steps can I take to troubleshoot and correct this issue?
SQL Brower with multiple versions of SQL Server
I've installed SQL 2014 on a server that is already running SQL 2008 R2. When I did so, setup did not install a SQL Browser service. I presume that was because there was already a SQL Browser service on the computer. I my presumption correct? If so, can I do something about it.
This all came about because I have an application that cannot find my SQL 2014 instance by name, but can if I specify the port number. It seems to me that the 2008 R2 browser is handling my 2008 R2 instance, but now the 2014 instance.

Upgrade Advisor 2014 Report - "No unresolved issues found" (SSAS)
Hi,
Upgrade Advisor 2014 report says “No unresolved issues found” when executed on SSAS, analysis did not take more than 10 seconds. I’ve tried executing UA on SSAS 2008 R2 and SSAS 2012 servers, got the same report.
Following URL talks about common upgrade issues with SQL Server 2014, but this list does not have any SSAS issues.
https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/library/ee210473.aspx
What are the common SSAS issues addressed by Upgrade Advisor. Is there any configuration/settings to be changed for successful execution of Upgrade Advisor on SSAS. Or shall I assume that there are no known issues that could be identified by Upgrade Advisor. please suggest
Thanks in advance. Appreciate quick response.
Thanks,

Reinstalling SQL 2014 Express Advanced.
SQL2014 with SP1 (x64) and MS14-044
I am installing SQL2014 (x64) Standard, also installing SP1 and would like to know if I still need to apply MS14-044
Documentation in MS14-044 says to apply to version 12.0.2000.8 and above. See linkhttps://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/MS14-044
Yet, when I see documentation for KB2977315, it only makes reference to RTM version of SQL2014. See linkhttps://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43958
Yet, when I look at was included in SP1, I do not see MS14-044 referenced anywhere. See linkhttps://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3058865?wa=wsignin1.0
I do not want to install it if already covered by SP1.
Somewhere the documentation is not up to date or accurate.
Please help!

SQL Server 2012 SP2 with PowerPivot, SSRS, SSAS, and SSIS ALL onto one server ?
Hello Forum,
I do need to setup SQL Server 2012 SP2 for my SharePoint farm which I will use it for some BI functionalities.
My question is: Is it OK (Performance wise) to install SQL Server 2012 SP2 along with PowerPivot, Reporting Services (SSRS), Analysis Services (SSAS), and Integration Services (SSIS) ALL of them onto one single box (One server) ?
Assuming that the server specifications are:
- Hyper-V environment.
- 4 Virtual CPUs.
- 32 GB Static Memory (RAM)
- Unlimited desk space.
Will the environment works well wit such specifications? Or, Will be excruciatingly slow?
Please, Do share your thoughts and experiences !
Also, I would appreciate any official links/references about setting up SQL with its services as one single server deployment?
I hope to hear from you soon !
