SQL Server 2012 SP1 Upgrade Path Question

$

Hello,

I have a question about how to proceed with the SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 1 upgrade path.  I would like to upgrade to SQL Server 2012 Service Pack 3.  I found this link which lists all of the latest updates. https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sqlserver/ff803383.aspx

So should I start with SQL Server Service Pack 1 and update to CU16?  Then install Service Pack 2 and CU11?  Then Service 3 pack?   Can someone please advise.  I would appreciate any help.  I am a newbie here so please excuse my ignorance.

sql server Dev setup/upgrade

Hello.
The company uses sql server 2008 R2 with several databases, ssis packages, etc. We are in the process of setting up a Dev server which we do not have yet...
Question:
Should we set-up the Dev box with sql server 2008 R2 first and then test the Dev environment i.e. point applications to Dev for testing, etc. or should we install sql server 2014 on the Dev server first or upgrade prod to sql server 2014 first?

What do you suggest please?

Thanks

Hello, my name is Rosyid. I have a problem during installation of SQL Server on my Server. The SQL Server can't install because the SQL Server Browser service can't start. I tried to install following this article https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mdegre/2010/02/22/setup-sql-server-2008-service-sqlbrowser-start-request-failed/

I got error "SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.."

Any help would be gratefully accepted.

Regards,

Rosyid

issue with applying sp3 to MS SQL 2008 R2

I am working on migrating one sql server to a cloud server. I installed MS sql on the server but have not restored the sql database from the backup yet. Can I installed sp3 before restoring the database? When I tried to install sp3, it kept telling me that the instance ID is missing. Does it mean the database is not there which caused instance ID missing?

Please advise!

SQL Server 2012 - Analysis, Intergration, Reporting Services are disabled

I have installed SQL Server 2012 and when I try to connect to Analysis Services is disabled. The same goes for Integration Services and Reporting Services. The only 2 options for connection are Database Engine and Azure Storage.

I already checked the SQL Configuration Manager and all services are running. I also turn off the firewall just in case it was blocking the services.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Thank you!

SQL server services go from auto start to disabled

Periodically we are finding that MSSSQLServer services are stopping. Inspection of the logs shows this each time it happens:

The start type of the SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER) service was changed from auto start to disabled.

Nothing obvious just before the entry.

Anyone else come across this and know what it is?

SQL Server 2014 SP1 - earlier CUs unavailable

We were hoping to download and apply Cumulative Update 5 for SQL 2014 SP1, but it is unavailable on the MS download site. The site only offers CU 6, which was just released 10 days ago (4/18/16).  We are a little nervous about applying a patch that has only been available for a short while.

Per the KB article, "after future Cumulative Updates are released for SQL Server 2014 Service Pack 1, this CU [CU5] can be located and downloaded from the Microsoft Windows Update Catalog".  We checked and found that none of the earlier CUs for SQL 2014 SP1 were available in the Update Catalog.

Any suggestions?

Steve

Permission denied in database 'master'. Error.

I've had all kinds of problems setting up a new instance of SQL Server on my work laptop.  I've jumped through all kinds of hoops because permissions are very restricted on my machine.  It almost works now; I think this is the last thing.  I'm getting a 'permissions denied' error.  See the image below.

I Under Security > Logins > sa > Properties, I can't create any roles.  As soon as I check 1 checkbox and hit ok, I get another error message.

Is there an easy fix for this?

How do I do this please?  I've downloaded the ISO file which has set up a DVD drive with the installation files on it.  When I click on the setup application, the SQL Server Installation Center opens.  I just want to install the service pack, not to do a new installation.  How might that be achieved, please?

Performance issue after upgrading to SQL Server 2014 is anything changed with optimizer logic

Hi Team,

We have upgrade our SQL server from SQL 2008 active passive cluster to SQL 2014 Always on (Side by side upgrade). After Upgrade we had serious performance issues. The proc which was taking less than 10 seconds started taking hours and never completing. We suspected infra issue, checked with infra team all was good. Checked sql config didn't find anything weird. After doing lot of R&D and trial n error we changed the database compatibility mode from SQL 2014 to SQL 2012 same proc started running in seconds.

Can you please confirm if anything has changed in SQL 2014 as this seems to be bug to us. I can provide more details if required?

Thanks-Abhijit

Connecting to SSIS through SSMS without Built in Administrator

Without giving someone membership into the "BUILTIN\Administrators" group,
how would one enable a user to be able to access SSIS through SSMS REMOTELY?
SSMS >> Connect >> Integration Services >> {Server Name} I get the following error, even though I am a sysadmin on SQl Server involved. The only way, so far, I am able to get around this error is by having Built In Administrator permissions.

I have a "SQL Server 2008" with 20 CALs. Now I am installing a new ERP and need a total of 40 user licenses. But now,May/2016, there are not "SQL 2008 user CAL" to buy.

Can I buy "SQL 2014 user CAL" and use to access my "SQL Server 2008"?

Where can I get a product key from MSDN subscription for SQL Server 2012 edition upgrade?

Hi,

We have a Bizpark MSDN subscription and when we started a new project we installed SQL Server instances on 3 different machines as Evaluation edition as we were unsure of which edition we would need. Now we have decided to upgrade to Business Intelligence edition but we actually do not have any product keys because the MSDN subcription only provides an ISO with a pre-registered key.

So where can I find a product key to upgrade the SQL Server 2012 edition?

Thank you.

Please let me know during which scenario MSSQL Server 2012 STD Edition-Server/CAL software should be installed or used.

Also is there  any way to identify whether installed SQL Server 2012 STD Edition 64-bit is Per Core or Server/CAL

Thanks and Regards,
